Why Falls Prevention? 
- Physical Therapy is the right fit
- Falls are leading a cause of disability, loss of independence, hospitalization, and nursing home placement
- Mobility issues and falls are not identified or managed well in health care or community
- Minnesota has one of the highest rates of seniors falls in the country, 2 x national average
Project Aims
- Support early identification of individuals at risk
- Design and Disseminate an evidence-based functional strengthening program
- Build and prepare a network of physical therapist trainers who can deliver training and provide technical support to health professionals and community partners in Minnesota
- Promote healthy aging
- Reduce medical costs associated with falls

- Promote the value of PT to communities, consumers, health care providers, & legislators
- Establish physical therapists as a key resource for falls prevention
- Increase visibility of the profession among consumers, payers, providers, and DHS
