MN-PT PAC FAQ

Does MN PT-PAC give preference to one political party over another in disbursing funds to candidates?

The party that is in control of the State House of Representatives and the State Senate usually will receive more support. The House stands for reelection every two years, the Senate every four. The party that wins the majority controls the flow of legislation. MNPTA must voice its legislative priorities and MN PT-PAC enables this to happen.

How many MNPTA members contribute to PT-PAC?

Depending on the year, 5-10% of MNPTA members contribute to MN PT-PAC. Higher participation occurs during election years. MN PT-PAC has a contribution goal of 30%-40% of licensed PT or PTA in Minnesota.

Are my contributions to MN PT-PAC tax deductible?

Political contributions are not tax deductible for state or federal income purposes.

Can I designate that my contribution to MN PT-PAC be "earmarked" for disbursement to a specific candidate?

No. All personal contributions are put in one bank account for consideration for disbursement for state candidates.

Will my contribution to MN PT-PAC be made public?

The PAC will not make your contribution public on the MNPTA website or MN PT-PAC page on the MNPTA website. At MNPTA or MN PT-PAC events you will be provided a ribbon to wear that designates your level of giving based on the club level of your contribution. However, the Campaign Finance Board does require PACs to report their contribution sources.

Does any portion of my MNAPTA dues go to MN PT-PAC contributions to candidates?

No. It is illegal to use association dues for PAC contributions to candidates. All contributions must be separate and voluntary to MN PT-PAC.

Is there a minimum contribution level?

All contributions are welcomed and appreciated. MN PT-PAC has various Contributor Clubs based on the level of contribution. See Contributor Club for more information. We recommend all MNPTA members contribute $25 annually to the MN PT-PAC as a show of support to the advocacy efforts of MNPTA. By making this level of contribution AND telling your colleagues to do the same the MN PT-PAC will quickly grow in dollars and improve the effectiveness of our advocacy efforts.
