Message from the MN PT-PAC Chair
Dear fellow PT professionals,

Some of the most critical work that MNPTA is involved in is legislative activity at the State Capital. To do this, we need a very strong PAC. MNPTA PAC was formed to empower Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants to be more involved in the determination of state laws and policies. Our PAC allows the physical therapy profession to channel its financial and grassroots support to help candidates understand the value of Physical Therapy. When a candidate or caucus is holding a fundraising event, constituents, our lobbyist and/or members are asked to attend the event in person and build relationships with the candidate or members of the political caucus.

Other times when there is not a fundraising event, constituents, our lobbyist and/or members are asked to deliver the donation personally to build a relationship with the candidate. It is amazing how welcome we are and how willing legislators are to listen to us when they know we care enough about them to donate and attend their events. We see a consistent and common theme – each representative loves physical therapy and has PT story.

We advocate in other ways, including our MNPTA Day on the Hill, individuals creating relationships with their own House or Senate representatives and lobbying activities. Our MNPTA lobbyist, Randy Morris, has a message for all of us Randy's Message.

If we are going to remain a competitive “player” in health care legislation, we need a very strong PAC. It is the reality of today’s political landscape. Each of our health care colleagues and those who are threatening the physical therapy scope of practice use PACs in a similar manner. To avoid falling significantly behind when it comes to having our say in health care legislation, a robust physical therapy PAC is vital.

MNPTA must continue to raise our visibility at the State Capital. Our reputation is exceptionally strong, and we are preparing a very aggressive agenda for 2018. This includes updating our Practice Act, student loan forgiveness, and disability parking authorization among others. These are significant issues to address, and our relationships with individual legislators are more important than ever. Our current PAC amount won’t begin to cover these needs. I am setting a goal of raising $25,000 by October 1, 2017. We need to raise $25,000.

I am asking that every PT and PTA in MN contribute to our PAC, member or non-member. We have a group of donors who will match your contributions up to $10,000! Contribute Now! You are welcome to give any amount, but at the very least, please consider giving $25. Imagine what we could do if everyone contributed!

Thanks for your consideration.
